We’re thrilled to present our Annual Learning and Impact Report, where we showcase what trust-based collaboration can achieve.

In 2024, we brought together over 90 organisations in India to transform the steel sector, united 50+ European partners to reshape aviation’s future and launched ambitious new work in Indonesia. This is the power of collective action.

This report shares our journey of building powerful coalitions, the impact we’ve achieved together and our vision for accelerating climate progress in 2025 and beyond. Explore how we’re working with businesses, investors and civil society to unlock ambitious climate action at the speed and scale needed.

Decarbonising the steel sector in India

In 2024 we set out to accelerate steel decarbonisation in India by building collaboration and raising ambition of the public, private, and civil society sectors and promoting the adoption of green public procurement policies in key infrastructure ministries.

  • India Green Steel Network (IGSN) grew to 90+ members across 56 organisations
  • Annual convening aligned 40+ members on technology pathways
  • Four GreenSteel45 learning events hosted, averaging 20 attendees and 4+/5 rating
  • Engaged with key ministries including Railways, Transport, Steel, Ports and Power
  • Research and evidence-building to support policy implementation
  • Launched the Sustainable Finance Working Group with 40+ member organisations
  • Working group identified key policy and financing barriers
  • Developed transition finance recommendations with leading climate finance experts

Learnings from our steel programme

Research backed adjustments

Ship recycling offers valuable steel but isn’t a silver bullet for secondary steel making in India. Our initial research challenged fundamental assumptions about ship recycling’s potential role in steel decarbonisation. Through detailed investigation, we discovered that scrap availability from this sector was more limited than anticipated, with most material being used directly in value-added steel products. This insight helped us refocus our strategy while providing valuable insights for the wider shipping sector.

Strategic pivots to deepen policy engagement

We began the year focused on demonstrating green public procurement with a single sector. However, as opportunities evolved, we identified the potential for broader systemic change. This led us to expand our scope, adapting our approach to support wider policy development that could impact multiple sectors. This flexibility in our strategy allowed us to pursue greater impact through our work.

Tackling the climate impacts of European aviation

In 2024 we aimed to increase progress towards short and medium term reductions in aviation emissions by scaling investment into e-fuel production, while we change narratives and spur political will that lay the groundwork for policy, technology and investment enablers towards zero emission flight.

  • Published sustainable aviation fuels explainer reaching 5,000+ investors
  • Created SAF policy guides and resources viewed over 3,000 times
  • Engaged energy companies, investors and innovators through targeted events and workshops
  • Built understanding of e-fuels as highest-integrity aviation fuel option
  • Conducted narrative research across four European markets (UK, France, Germany, Spain)
  • Built Aviation Communications Learning Network with 45+ members
  • Delivered 4 peer learning events and strategy workshops
  • Developed open-source communications framework for partners
  • Convened civil society and industry innovators to align on shared goals
  • Hosted strategic workshops exploring pathways to scale zero-emission technologies
  • Developed collaborative approach to public engagement on zero-emission aviation

Learnings from our aviation programme

Understanding the e-fuels value chain

Our work with energy companies, e-fuel producers and investors revealed that major energy companies are key to scaling e-fuels production. We found that strategic engagement with the financial sector could help overcome current market barriers and accelerate investment in sustainable aviation fuel projects.

Finding common ground in public dialogue

Our research across Europe showed that framing aviation’s climate impact through justice and health resonates most effectively with mainstream audiences. This insight is helping civil society partners develop more compelling communications that can build support for ambitious policy action.

Strategic pivots to deepen policy engagement

We identified important links between current e-fuels development and future zero-emission aircraft technologies. This helped us develop an integrated approach that could drive investment toward both near-term and long-term solutions for aviation decarbonisation.

Our priorities for 2025 and beyond

Our work across India and Europe has shown the power of trust-based collaboration to drive ambitious climate action. As you explore our full report, you’ll discover how we’re applying these learnings to our new programme on heavy industry in Indonesia, where we see significant opportunities to support sustainable development while reducing emissions at scale.

We invite you to learn more about our priorities for 2025, including how we’ll continue to strengthen collaboration, mobilise new actors and build powerful ecosystems that drive policy change and shift investments. Together, we’re demonstrating that collective action can accelerate the pace of change needed to secure a just, prosperous world in which global temperature rise is limited to 1.5°C.
